FICHE MOROCCO

In West Sahara road checkpoints are numerous and you are stopped at each one where they will note down your travel details which will take an annoyingly amount of time... unless you have a small slip of paper known as a fiche.

You prepare the fiche yourself with your travel details and make plenty of copies (20 will do), then you just hand it over at each checkpoint, answer a couple of questions and off you go.

The police is very familiar with the fiche and almost expects it.

FICHE MAURITANIA

In Mauritania there are even more checkpoints than in West Sahara and you will go nuts if you have not prepared your fiche. If crossing the country north to south, 30 copies will be enough. For a return trip to the Adrar add another 20 copies.

This is the one I used and it was always accepted. It could be that the Morocco fiche (above) would do but it is better to have too much information so you don't have to waste time at each checkpoint.

PUNCTURE CHEAT SHEET

This is a step-by-step instruction for changing or repairing an inner tube (for those, like me, that always do it the wrong way the first time around). It is based on the excellent instructional DVD, that is part of the Achievable Dream DVD series by Horizons Unlimited.

On the back side I have all the technical specifications for my bike; tyre sizes, sprocket sizes, spark plug specs, bulb types, etc. Always good to have at hand.

HOTEL BOOKING

When applying for visas there is sometimes a requirement for a hotel booking. Usually a one day booking at any random hotel in any random city in the country in question will satisfy the embassy folks. They just need a document to fulfill their requirements.

This document is a fully editable replica of a real hotel booking made on one of the main booking sites on the internet in 2015.

With this you can make your own hotel reservation in advance, just in case, and spare yourself an extra visit to the embassy or consulate.

See instructions on page 2 of the document.
